and i bet y'all (thats right i live in the south and can say that now) were hoping that i had finally stopped blabbing on about my kid, well you were wrong! i kinda forgot this whole thing existed and then i was looking through old picts on facebook and found a link out to it...

so let's see the past year has been kinda sucky, which you all probably know, and you would think it would be funny by now but it isn't quite yet so we won't talk about it. however we are now in NC for those of you who are slow and haven't caught on. i like it quite a bit out here, but now we just got to figure out how to make a living and we would be all set.

however, i could do without the freezing cold, its been close to or below 30 degrees for the last week or so and i'm over it, that coupled with the out break of fifth's disease, and me feeling a bit under the weather i think dane and i will stay home today and make cookies for santa.

i'll add to some pictures here this week, which i guess i could flood facebook with, but that might be annoying to those people who don't really like me but friended me anyway.....

so all of you know, or if you don't i haven't seen you in so long it doesn't matter, we are back in the states and have seriously seen things go to hell and back. pretty messed up, piecing everything back together and are hoping that our bad karma has ran out and something might pan out for us. i'm listening to dane babble himself to sleep and like you would assume he is bigger, faster, and smarter which isn't necessarily good for us....

so i guess this is to say, i'm back and i'll keep you updated.

and the battle to get him to sleep later continues..... up at 4:45 this morning, a bit early for him and he was cranky all day because of it. there is hope yet though, our spanish tutor, who knows everyone and can get everything is going to have black out curtains made for us!!! yeah, but i'm not celebrating too soon cause you never know if that will actually work.

on a more interesting front dane is starting to try to talk, so cute, he goes back and forth between ba baaah's and actually trying to say the word. also new this week he is starting to figure out how to put lids on things and discovered that dropping stuff is fun. we are def in the explore absolutely everything over and over and over again phase of development.

not feeling very witty right now and think that actually falling asleep last night at midnight was a bad idea, so i will finish my vodka tonic and go right to bed----

its amazing how quickly kids grow and change, i know i know, blah blah blah cliche cliche but seriously!

since last week dane now:
go get the toy you tell him to grab
bring you books to read
is starting to use a spoon
gives you some of whatever he has
starting to actually play with toys and not just eat them (ie makes cars go!)
to attaching babblings to things
understands STOP!
can climb our sketchy stairs much to my dismay
step over stuff...

besides all the squishy stuff i have had a few hard costa rica days, i'm home sick.... i miss going to the store and being able to get wheat bread any day i want (went to three stores and couldn't find any), getting into my car and knowing everything is functioning, calling grammy and having her watch the baby for an hour to regain my sanity, not being afraid to go to the bathroom at night because i might find a giant cocroach climbing around, and things being easy and convenient. i miss my friends....... blah! this too shall pass

it is just weird to think it has been a year since he was born and i am amazed at how quickly babies change and grow.

i can't believe how much has changed in a year, and that i actually thought dane was cute when he was first born..... ha! i look back and he looks like a wrinkly old man.

we made to the states and back.... its nice to look out my window and see the ocean, and not wear make-up or brush my hair for that matter.....

however i didn't miss typing as fast as i can at night before the internet goes out or loosing power while giving munchie bath, he really freaks when that happens.

nd since jeff's computer charger broke on the way home i battle my laptop screen daylily. like right now since the screen is going out i have no idea what i am typing, so frustrating. i was going to tell you all about my walking child but i guess it will have to wait. and i have some videao and really cute picts too

have you ever wondered what 4 am in costa rica is like? well i could tell you all about it considering munchie has decided that is an appropriate time to wake up in the morning..... ugh.... i guess it would be much worse but he rolls around and gabbers away being all cute while i am praying that he will go to sleep because he was moved into our bed. this morning, no dice-

we finally have internet back after it took at 2 and half day hiatus. its like xmas jeff and i both rush to the computers and start clicking away. and the our water has gone on and off all day today, not really sure why. i was told last week that mercury is in retrograde which causes things to break so i would like to blame it on that. it makes me feel better than thinking no running water is a typical occurance around here.

we're coming home in july!!!! just for a visit....

bet you all thought i was preggo.....

we'll be home the 7th thru the 20th and i am much more excited than i thought i would be, which is a good thing because it is keeping me from worrying about the screaming five hour car ride and then the plane flights..... i'm thinking benadryl, lots of benadryl.

kate, the one who got bit by the snake, is doing just fine. lily her daughter, has gotten seriously sick but appears to be on the mend, her fever broke yesterday morning.

another announcement, dane is partially crawling! i say partially because he will only do it when he is on our bed and when i am not looking. (think this will be a pattern throughout his life?) this pretty amazing considering he is so close to walking that i don't know why he will even bother to learn to crawl. jeff and i can get him to take a few steps on his own. its pretty exciting, he wants to go so bad...

i've been trying to get this pict up on facebook since it was taken (3/4 weeks ago....) and our internet isn't good enough. we are at playa hermosa, about 10 min from our place, this is how we spend most of the time at the beach, naked and walking

holy crap we just got back today from the most ill fated trip i have ever been on (well minus the camping trip exactly a year ago, i think we will no longer travel on memorial day) we got invited to go down to matapalo with another couple for the night. thinking great idea! we've never been that far south, amazing surf for jeff (he caught his longest wave ever) lets go check it out. all begins good, dane does ok in the car

get to puerto jimmenez (about 30 min from matapalo) and stop for a bite to eat, kate points out to john that their daughter lily def has a fever, which i should have known then..... being the ever prepared mom i offer her some kid motrin. lily starts to feel better right away so we figure no big deal. do the long bumpy ride out to matapalo, the beach is absolutely beautiful! one of the prettiest i've been to here, white sand, crystal clear water. we run into a ton of people from our area so i get to meet more, which is nice. everything is going so well...

the boys get in from surfing and go to find us a place to stay, which when we all get there is where the trip goes south. basically we paid $60 to stay in an unfinished house. we quickly find out that there is NO ELECTRICITY in matapalo (why?? who knows) and are told that the place is low on water.... there are three of these weird buildings so we have a 'house' to oursleves. i go lay down with dane, noticing the lovely sarongs used as hangings over the window to keep the bugs out (really, you think that works?) luckily there is a mosquito net over our bed that is covered in stained sheets. all of you know i'm not what you would call an outdoorsy girl, so i'm not so happy. jeff leaves to go out to surf again...

dane and i are awakened by kate yelling jessica... i'm thinking oh shit this isn't good, and the next thing she says is i've got an emergency situation, i've been bitten by a snake!!!! there are a few very highly poisonous snakes in costa rica which happen to fit the description of the one that bit her. so the guy who owns the place gives us direcitons to the nearest hospital, i grab all of our stuff upstairs, and we haul ass. dane screams the whole way, and are lucky enough that when the guy who owns the place called the hospital they sent an ambulance....

we follow the ambulance to the hospital (which we would have NEVER found on our own) kate stayed in the car with me not wanting to leave lily who is sound asleep. when we get there i stay in the car with the kids and she goes in, i can here the boys coming in the car about 2 minutes before they arrive due to how fast they are driving.

turns out kate was bit by a mica (mee-kha) boa type snake and she is totally fine. since we are back in puerto jimmenez we decide to stay there. super crappy hotel, no hot water, our room reeks of mold but it had a/c and windows. lily is progressively going down hill, and we find out in the morning that her fever wouldn't break and she had been throwing up....

(wow this is long!) so to wrap it up, we came home this morning and dane screamed almost the whole way. now i am waiting to get sick......

anyone remember the stories about the car we rented down here last time? come on the geo tracker..... well i'm convinced jeff has a knack for renting the shittiest car possible in any given situation. we now are the proud drivers of a red suzuki something. one of the belts needs adjusted so you can here us squealing down the road from anywhere, and to get the radio to work you need a tape in the tape deck (seriously where do you buy a tape anymore?), and the spring in the drivers side door handle is popping out so there is method to opening the door. it also has the annoying locking hub 4wd system, which up till a couple of days ago was fine.....

then somebody stole the hub that you twist to lock it in!!!!! seriously???? why? you do realize that that is a bit necessary around here, right, we can make it up to our place only in 2wd drive but it is a bit sketchy. so awesome, i swear ticos will steal anything

i have some time to write, the monster is asleep. it is so nice to finally settle somewhere, be it in another country or not. things are going well, we have been meeting people and have started hanging out with maya, brett, and their son jaxton a lot. they also just moved here and are about our age. jax is almost two and they have one on the way, so it will be nice to watch someone go through having a baby here before i do (if things all pan out).

jeff has been looking at property and found some interesting things, so it looks like the project is def possible here and i would imagine we will be able to find something before 6 months is up.

dane is digging it here. he really like the ocean and eating sand. i would imagine it would awesome for a little boy to grow up here so i am excited to watch him grow and have room to run and explore.

or maybe i should say happy day after election day, however for some of us not so happy =( i finally finally posted some picts in here!

we are just chugging along, danger has now decided he WILL NOT take a bottle anymore or a pacifier. the pacifier thing you would think would be great cause then i wouldn't have to wean him off but he wants to nurse to sleep ALWAYS, so i'm trying to get him to take it. it seems he just wants to chew on it and forgot that you are suppose to suck, same thing with the bottle, so maybe he is starting to get teeth....

many of you know about the all out scream fest that the car seat induces, so we went and got a new, next size up car seat and it seems to help. i'm not declaring victory yet but things are much better. thank you for the early xmas present, grandma and cappy!

he's growing so fast, he's now 14 pounds and about 25 inches long. here are some picts from the last few weeks...

it's been awhile! no picts today but i do have a ton to post, plus the two month octopus pictures. it seems our little guy is growing up, just in the last two days he is grabbing at things, babbling quite a bit, and has started drooling. he is starting to sleep quite a bit more at night, usually till about 4am, and i think we are going to start putting him to bed earlier so that probably means that 4am will now be 3ish.

for more dramatic news, jeff and i are 90% sure we are moving to the outer banks, north carolina in february. its no secret that working in construction sucks right now and jeff is running out of work, so why not go be beach bums and try to figure out how to make it work, if its good then we've taken a huge adventure and get to live out by the ocean, if its bad we'll pretty much be taking a year long vacation and come home a bit poorer than before. we're trying to rent the house so if you know anyone please send them our way!

yes, we have been there once! we went in may while i was pregnant, its pretty neat out there. big vacation area so it'll be interesting to be townies. its a barrier island off the coast, so on one side is sound and on the other is ocean, there are bridges that connect you in. and of course the surf there is great =) what about me and a&o, well it could be a great opportunity its a huge destination wedding area, and my research shows that they don't have any stationers in the area. i am redesigning my site and adding some 'ready to mail' options..... i'll link it when i get finished!

poor little guy!!!!! he tried to suck it up but half way through the second shot he had had enough. it's a little traumatizing holding his little arms while the nurse holds his legs and sticks him in the the thighs--- he has done pretty good all day but i think he might be starting to run a fever and i don't even want to know what that is like at this point so i gave him some tylenol. little guy is sleeping peacefully!

as far as his check up everything looks good, he's now 12 pounds 6 ounces and growing normally. all of his measurements are in the 50% so i think we are going to escape the kid with the giant head phenomenon that seems to happen as they grow.

since he has been doing so well on the acid reflux meds, which when the doc had perscribed she put him on a really high dose to get him normal so i wouldn't loose my mind, we are going to start to pull back on one of the meds and hope that only have one kind will be enough. so the next few weeks will be interesting!

i do have birth announcements, and guess where they are? sitting on my coffee table, i swear i will get them out one of these days..... that magical day when i can get a shower and leave the house in one day....

sooooooo the saga continues! he is actually doing a lot better, finally but i'm crossing my fingers. one of my clients put me in touch with a doula she met and the doula (who wasn't all hippy, i was a bit worried when i called but i will try anything) recommend that we put munchi (his most used nickname from me and jeff has picked it up too) and me on probiotics. i guess she had a son who had all the stuff munchi but they weren't diagnosing that stuff yet and probiotics got rid of the acid reflux, and it has worked for quite a few of her clients too. i have been taking them for about a week or so and it seems to be helping him. the brand she recommend for him i can not find anywhere, oh well sorry i could order it from target but then i would have to order a whole case and it would cost me $500.

probiotics, are the good bacteria in your stomach that help with digestion, and since he gets all of his food from me if i'm all out of whack so is he. apparently i needed some work, after some research i found out that antibiotics can mess you all up so i'm wondering if the antibiotics i got in labor contributed to some of this. but who knows, i found a website that claims probiotics can help treat autism.... not too sure about that one but the theroy was interesting:if you have messed up stomach flora you won't get the nutrients you need, cause lack of brain development. when a child is tiny the breast milk provides these flora for the baby, i see several holes in the this theroy, but none the less---

he is still hanging on to a bit of the absolute hatred of the car seat, but less so now. it isn't an all out scream fest when he is in there but there is quite a bit of fussing and crying usually till he falls asleep, which makes me feel horrible!

if anyone can find probiotics in a drop form called Bio Gio, please please please let me know!

so we are on our third try of a med concoction, and it seems to be working..... i am also not eating dairy, soy, eggs, or caffeine and at this point i'm not too sure what i can eat! i had some soy yesterday and he was cranky all afternoon so i'm thinking he is actually sensitive to it. i will do anything to make him stop screaming! so how are you eating cereal you ask (everyone should know how much i love cereal) almond milk, yup they make milk out of almonds and it is actually edible-

short version of the story:

munchkin started screaming all day for two days straight

took him to a new pediatrician

think he has reflux (makes them act like they have colic)

started zantac (yes, you can give a baby zantac)

next day like a new kid

sunday not so good

yesterday back to screaming

called doc now giving him a higher dose of zantac and i'm not eating dairy

had mental breakdown last night

today is questionable, quite fussy however he put himself to sleep and is sleeping without having to be held........

and i guess that makes jeff the farmer---

starting friday night we had more projectile puking and screaming, which lasted almost the whole weekend. our baby seemed to be in serious pain but luckily usually only after eating. we were able to take him on his first boat ride which he dug until he got wet.... another story for another day-

so i called the poor nurse on labor day weekend, i felt so bad. we made an emergency trip to walmart to buy gas drops (the first 1/2 hour jeff and i have been alone in 3 weeks while grandma watched danger) and were told to come in to the doc's on tues. the appointment goes like this: we get there and dane is screaming, naturally. he gets weighed and is now TEN POUNDS, i knew he was getting bigger but holy crap. the doc comes in and does all the checks. i tell him the baby is hungry, he says ok feed him and we will talk. then the next thing out of his mouth is your feeding him too much, as i'm sitting there nursing him. i thought nice timing.... anywho i guess he is getting too much milk so he is puking out what he doesn't need. i have an oversupply issue and according to the doc i would be the perfect mom for twins. he is eating himself sick and is now acting colicky because of it (oh the irony! scroll down a bit and read the other entries, you will notice i am scared to death of a colicky baby) now i have to trick my body into thinking i'm weaning the kid, so i don't feed him to death

moral of the story: having too little milk is bad, having too much is painful for the mom and baby and anyone else in earshot

my mellow child i brought home!!!

sorry again (i think i might be apologizing a lot these next few months) for not getting back to all of you who have called, emailed, and wanted to get together--- we've had quite a week! but hopefully (please god!) we have figured out the issue.

starting about a week ago danger thought it would be fun to scream after almost every time he was fed, being that this is every 2 to 3 hours, you can only imagine the fun that was. then on saturday we had a projectile puking incident, literally had to wash the sheets and wipe down the night stand. i freaked out and stared at him for the next hour thinking he was going to die and then finally gave in and called the pedi's nurse. i so didn't want to be THAT mom calling the nurse.... but it was very helpful, i guess my body is pretty good at this whole baby making/supporting business and i'm making crazy amounts of milk. feeding him for 20 min was too long so now i only feed him for 10. its seem to decrease screaming fits quite a bit, although they still occur and are usually sprinkled with some puking. i have also given in the last 2 nights and have put him in bed with us, since he is happy to be awake and laying there, where as if he is on his own by himself = not happy. you have no idea how awesome being woken up every 2 hours (i think he is starting his growth spurt) for only 10 minutes is compared to up every 3 to 4 for an hour or 2.

and to make this week a little crazier, i'm trying to work (ya, i know, i'm a dumbass) so if i can find time where i am able to keep my eyes open i need to finish two weddings and manage the coding of a website...... (if you were sitting next to me you would have heard me let out a big sigh) and for the record, i didn't plan it to be like this it just happened--

so no picts today as i need to work since the monster is asleep and i can see straight... (sorry jenny!)

holy crap! can't believe it has been two weeks, it seems to be that when you only get sleep in 3 hours chunks at the most it all just feels like one long day. i often find myself waking up for our 2 am feedings thinking about iced americanos (should that be spelled with an oes?) or paying someone to wake up for me, i'm thinking i would offer quite a generous sum.

apparently newborns kick in at around 2 weeks, they call it wakefulness, which really they should call a cranky period. needless to say our little danger baby has been quite cranky the last few days. i'm scared to death he will be colicky, but i guess there is nothing i can do about it if he is. we also discovered last night that he opens his eyes when he sleeps, exorcist style. we spent forever trying to get him to pass out yesterday evening, after i took over for jeff i realized that he was still sleeping just opening his eyes and rolling them back into his head, totally freaky.

anyway i know i have promised a birth story and i have more pictures but alas the little monster is waking up again. i WILL i swear it get that stuff up this weekend, i have to work a bit so it will be a nice break. (yes, i am going to work, i don't really know how and i hope the client proofed her stuff really good cause i sure as hell will be no use there)

this is the best thing ever! if you are a mom you NEED one of these! one of my many discoveries in the last few days, its a long piece of fabric that you wrap around your body so it holds the munchkin right up against your chest. then you got both of your hands free, very handy!

anyway i'll get off my product plug kick---- heading to the cabin to get some air conditioning, danger's first trip! hopefully all goes well!

he finally decided to join us! Dane is here--- born 8.7.08, 7lb 13oz, 22in---

he's doing rather well, and is (so far) a quiet little guy.... we are getting out of the hospital tomorrow at some point

Here I sit so close but yet so far.... We are anxiously awaiting his arrival, me more so than Jeff. Not knowing what to expect each little twinge, pull, and cramp I wonder is this it? Is this the start?

Dane and I have had many conversations about his stay and how it has come to an end but it he never responds, and it seems as though he isn't listening.

Not feeling so good today, hopefully that means something, it should mean something right?
